I've been in CA for almost a year now. So much has happened since I moved here, and my life has changed for the better in so many ways. One amazing change in particular? I've met and befriended some really wonderful, inspiring, and fabulous women. So, to honor these great gals, I thought it would be cool to spotlight some of them! Hence, I've decided to start a new series of posts I'm calling 'Women Who Rock!" First up, the lovely and talented Jessica Rives - creator of Mansfield Lingerie.
Mansfield Lingerie is a stunning collection of up-cycled lingerie, head scarves and accessories all of which are completely handmade by Jessica. The line is inspired by the 1920s and art deco, and is designed with every woman in mind. The lingerie is stunning, comfy, and stylish; and the headscarves are a must-have accessory. I was lucky enough to shoot with Jessica and her boyfriend/photographer Tyler Coats a few months back and had an incredible time. I was modeling a variety of the headscarves (more on these below), and was able to spend some time getting to know Jessica (and her adorable puppies!). She's seriously one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet, and is a truly talented woman.
To get the inside info on Mansfield Lingerie, I asked Jessica a couple of questions about her business and her inspiration!
When did you start Mansfield Lingerie? What got you interested in sewing?
Jessica: With each job after college, I moved a little closer to working with crafts. Working with my hands had always made me happy. My sewing skills improved in the last 5 years working at my current day job where I produce props and display items for retail. Mansfield started about 2 years ago when I knew in my heart that I needed to work creatively to be happy, especially for myself like my grandmother did. She was a dedicated seamstress who is an inspiration to me always.
I love that all of your products are up cycled - what inspired you to do that?
Upcycling bows and accessories started when I grew out of some clothing my grandmother made for me. The fabrics held a sentimental value for me. I couldn't part with them, so instead I turned them into hair accessories I can wear and still be reminded of my grandmother. Furthermore, I also appreciated the one of a kind items made from the limited amount of fabric. I take that concept into designing and producing the lingerie as well, but with new fabric. I love to work in small batches of fabric to create limited edition pieces. They feel more unique that way.
Where do you see Mansfield Lingerie going in the future - what's next?
This year my focus for Mansfield is to participate in more craft shows. Interacting with the customers is fun. I am able to get to know my target market and receive immediate feedback. Wholesale and/or consignment accounts with stores is also a goal I want to reach in the next year.
Where can people buy your fabulous pieces?
Mansfield Lingerie and Accessories are sold online on Etsy as well as local craft shows in LA throughout the year. Upcoming shows include Bust Craftacular on June 21, and Renegade on July 26 & 27.
I guarantee you'll find yourself craving one of her newest bed jackets (sophisticated and sexy), a lace bralette (super chic), cozy leg warmers, or one of her many beautiful hair accessories.
I'm obsessed with the turbans:
They're super cool accessories, made even more awesome by the fact that you can tie each turban a ton of different ways (each comes with instructions for four different styles, but the more you play with it, the more looks you discover). Some are even made in reversible color combinations!
If you haven't already, check out Mansfield Lingerie - whether it's via Etsy, other social media, or one of the upcoming shows. Trust me, these pieces will make you feel relaxed and radiant, sophisticated and sexy. Jessica Rives has created a truly dreamy line of products, and each piece is entirely unique!
